Photoshoot Plans

Rationale for the studio shoots. My model will stand against the white background to help the viewers focus more on the person and the main feature instead of the background.

Rationale for all images
I am going to use my canon eos 400d and its flash against more detailed backgrounds such as brick walls and fences, this creates a more unusual feel about the photographs and gives them abit more framing and character. I will use a medium exposure for all of these shots but i will experiment with different exposures.
They will be the same layout as the photoshoot.
I am going to make sure you can see them all. I will take some photographs of them aligned straightly against the wall in a straight line and also staggered. I will use low and high angle shots but from magazine research high angle shots are popular for my type of magazine.
My aim for the photographs is to take as many as i can because i want a variation to choose from for my cover.

I have chosen these models simply because they look generic for the genre of magazine i want to create. Realisticly they have the clothes that I want on my magazine and the boys look like a band.

Experimental shots

Here are some shots I have taken of my cover band.
I have experimented with a few different locations and angling of shots. All these pictures have been taken with a Canon EOS 400D camera.

This shot is a low angle medium shot, Shot in the arts centre in a corridor. The shot is a good shot, it is quite natural, I have edited it on photoshop elements 6.0 by using a gradient map on the background of the image and then erasing the gradient layer over the parts where the guitar is so that it stays in colour. I then used a lense flare at the end of the guitar to create a wierd light effect.

This image was taken in a local cemetery in Darlington, the giant light behind it created a silhouette of the band. This could be used as a photograph for the double page spread or contents because it is too dark for the dominant image of the cover.
This photograph is much clearer. It was taken in a back street in Darlington. The brick wall looks quite effective. They are dressed in casual clothes but the clothes are all different colours so if i was to change this photograph i would put them in a colour scheme such as black and purple. This is a landscape picture so the format of it would not fit the cover but it could look effective in a double page spread.

Reece of Location

Potential Locations - Graveyard darlington

Photograph-

Is it suitable – This would look more effective at night because of where it is at. It could look effective in the right perspective but if it is not right, the natual surroundings could ruin how the photograph looks, therefore making the cover look messy.

Potential Locations - College Arts Centre Photography Studio

Is it suitable – The studio can help producing some proffesional looking shots, as it has large lights, therefore i can play around with these. The white background can help exxagerate any colours or even lack of colours.

Mood board

I used these objects and logos in my mood board because these are a few things that i could endorse in my magazine as according to my research, people who would read my magazine are interested in this kind of stuff. These are some things that i would endorse in my magazine to try and make money from. This also gives an insight to what my magazine is all about and what the type of people are like that would buy from it are like.

I have done two mood boards, the first one was to show they type of things my readers enjoy and consume and this second one shows band photoshoots. I did this to give an insight of what type of poses and set outs these photoshoots are in. All of the pictures are very informal and not all of them are taken in a studio. I am going to experiment with different places and locations to take photos in. As you can see the girls in the pictures are dressed femenine yet they represent their genre of music my wearing more 'rock chick' type of clothes.

Initial Treatment

The Front cover will be a large image of my featured band and they will be dressed to present their genre of music. They will be dressed in purple and black clothes because of the colour scheme of the magazine which will be purple and turquoise. I am going to use more image than text because from my research i have found out that younger people who are into the rock genre respond better to more of an image than more text. I am going to make the text that is on the cover large and catchy so that it will catch peoples eyes, and the text in the contents simple, i will do the same with the double page spread but make it more detailed, and do it about something that will interest my target audience.

I will personally design the text to match the genre of my magazine and i will make it look kind of eroded and kind of distorted.
I have chose the name "Broken record" for my magazine because the word record tells the audience straight away that it is to do with music, and the word broken gives a eroded sense, that the music isn't normal music or that it is not straight. I think this gives a perfect taster for my magazine interior.

The layout of my front cover will be the name at the top in a larger font than the rest of the page. The dominant image will take up the majority of the page and it will be themed in a specific colour. At the bottom, i will have smaller pictures that will show somemore features in my magazine such as smaller articles or even posters.

The contents page will have pictures all around it of different bands and artists. I am going to do this by dressing my models up in different types of clothing. This is to show the variation of artists my magazine has in it. It will also appeal to my target audience because according to my focus group and questionnaare, people of a younger age who are into rock music prefer picture to text. The contents however will be aligned in the center of the page next to the pictures. I am then going to do a mini article on another band which will be to draw the reader into the magazine abit more. The text for the contents and the mini article will be very small. This could give the reader a choice, for instance they do not have to read it but they can if they want to. As some people may enjoy reading text.

For my double page spread I am going to do an interview on a new upcoming band called "before last night", it will be about how they are coping on their road to success. The images on the double page spread will be images taken in the studio. I am also going to use some pictures that have been taken out and about. This could show that they are outgoing. The colour themes are going to mostly withhold purple, but i would like the double page spread to be quite colourful as there genre of music is a rather upbeat genre of music. The title of the article will be aligned at the top of the page and its going to take up about half of the page because i want it to be the 'main article' of the whole magazine and i want it to stand out. I will pull out quotes from the text and make them a bigger font to also draw people into the article.
On the right hand side i am going to do smaller reviews on other bands with smaller pictures of different artists. This will vary the page abit and keep the readers interested. It will also show that this particular section of the magazine is focused on new artists and if the main article is about an upcoming band then the whole magazine could be based on new bands.
